Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Your Mental Health
Building Healthy New Year’s Resolutions for Your Mental Health
New Year’s Resolutions are a popular tradition nationwide. The new year has become synonymous with change, which many use to create their foundation of new habits. There are many ways you can make strides for your mental health this year, and Wellspring Counseling Center is here to support you as you do.
Here are a few mental health-themed New Year’s resolutions to try and implement in your daily life.
1. Join a New Community
Reaching out for help may seem daunting at first, but having an additional support network can be beneficial if you are struggling with your mental health. Joining a club or organization can be a good way to find your new community. Consider joining a low-stress activity such as a book club, dominoes group, brunch or lunch club, etc.
Attending support groups in Plano can also help you find others that you can relate to within your community. Support groups can help provide insight from others who have gone through what you have with insights and moderation from the group’s sponsor.
2. Find Some Healthy Hobbies
Is there a sport you’ve always wanted to master? Have you been wanting to pick up a new creative endeavor? The new year is the perfect time to start a new hobby. Giving yourself something to work and improve on can help keep you motivated throughout the year, and you may even find something you’re incredibly passionate about.
3. Focus on Your Physical Health
Exercising is a common New Year’s resolution, but did you know that working out can have an immense positive impact on your mental health? The current Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans recommend a minimum of 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise a week. This may sound daunting, but taking small steps to find a new routine can go a long way.
Physical health doesn’t just mean exercising, however. Getting healthy amounts of sleep, eating a varied and nutritious diet, and drinking enough water are the basis of both physical and mental health.
4. Organize Your Space
Your environment can shape your mental well-being in negative and positive ways. Depression and other mental illnesses can make it difficult to keep a tidy space, but challenging yourself to take the first step is a win. Remember to start small, prioritize what is most important to de-clutter, and cheer yourself on as you go.
5. Begin Counseling
What is counseling? Counseling can help you destress, build new habits, learn to cope with your symptoms, and more. At Wellspring Counseling Center, counseling means providing our clients with personalized assistance and care based on their individual needs.
There are various counseling types such as family and couple’s counseling, counseling for children and adolescents, counseling for adults, and more.
